This oil is wonderful, I have nothing but good things to say about it.
Taste is fresh.
Quality is unsurpassed.
As a raw foodie I'm always looking for the truly and minimally processed fractured foods such as this oil, I've looked in to Nutiva's process for making this and it appears it truly is raw and as minimally processed as coconut oil can get.
The way I use it most often is to make a raw custard smoothie in the blender as follows..
3 raw eggs
1 cup or more of raw 100% grass fed organic Milk
1 Teaspoon raw unheated honey
1-3 Tbsp Raw Nutiva Coconut Oil
It makes the creamiest most wonderful and incredibly healthy smoothie. I make between 1 and 3 of these each day so I use this oil very fast.
I also use it with a little raw milk and raw honey to make one of the creamiest, tastiest cups of coffee you can imagine!
The above smoothie can be turned in to a banana smoothie by adding half a banana and subtracting the eggs and honey.
Can also be used externally in hair and on skin.
This coconut oil should be a staple source of raw fat for every family, especially if you don't have ready access to fresh coconut!
This is the authentic product, I can vouch for it since I am from India. The ITC Hotel chefs who created this recipe are very well regarded in India. Its just the right mix for a spicy lamb curry, all you need to do is mix it with water and add the lamb and then let it simmer on your stove for 30-45 minutes to bring out the aromas and flavors. Really convenient and time saving.
The lamb curry paste is spicier than a butter chicken curry mix. The chicken curry usually has a more creamy consistency and is sweeter due to higher content of tomatoes. The lamb curry has a base of garlic, ginger, black pepper, tomatoes and other highly aromatic Indian spices (bayleaf, cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, cloves, black cardamom, shah jeera, corriander seeds, red chilli powder etc.).
I usually make my own curry as I prefer fresh ingredients but this mix is wonderful, it has just the right blend of spices that go into lamb curry. The secret to Indian food is to lower the flame once a curry boils and then simmer it for quite some time. This step is not a must if you're in a tearing hurry but it unlocks the real flavors.
Variations:
I sometimes add some 1X1.5 inch cubes of diced potatoes along with the lamb to absorb the spiciness which makes it into a "Lamb Vindaloo". Or you can use beef instead of lamb, it will taste just as good. If you're a vegetarian, you can use this curry with potatoes and green peas (peas added towards the end of the simmering process) - just as tasty.
Pairing:
Pair this lamb curry with some aromatic basmati rice, cooked till all grains are done but still separate and a bowl of plain yogurt (with a pinch of sugar if you like) to counter the spiciness. Or you can also buy Indian nan/roti from the local Indian grocery store. Yummy!
I have tried many Indian curry recipes in hopes of finding one that would taste as good as when I eat at an Indian restaurant, but they have all fallen short. On a whim I tried this Butter Chicken Curry (I usually stay away from packaged foods)and couldn't believe how amazing it tasted--the perfect spiciness with fantastic flavor. Also, there are no preservatives or crazy chemicals added to this product. I am so excited to find such a great tasting curry; I can now have great Indian food that is so easy and quick. I can't wait to try all of the different 'Kitchens of India' flavors!
The Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Super Value Size, 51-Ounce Bottle is a nice product. The taste is definitely great and this oil is much more flavorful than the Bertolli Extra Light Olive Oil, Super Value Size, 51-Ounce Bottle. Extra virgin olive oil is much tastier for salads or simple recipes than the light olive oil.
Of course you have to make sure you are getting the proper oil for your needs and recipes. Sometimes the light olive oil is called for by certain recipes. Some people also need to use *light* for health reasons. Olive oil is generally considered to be healthy so those people should be the exception.
The other thing to keep in mind is the price. This is one of those products where it really pays to subscribe. It's on the expensive side anyway, but subscribing makes it more bearable.
You can never have too much high quality olive oil when you love to cook. This stuff gets used quickly. So even though it's a nice sized bottle don't be afraid to subscribe!
Enjoy!
I live in Switzerland where this product is unknown, so I look forward to introducing it to friends there when we return home after vacation in Florida. Sure wish it could be found in retail stores.
When we served it here, everyone raved about the sauce. A friend just ordered a box of 6 for himself.
For 68oz totally, you can get same kind of olive oil(different brand) for $16 in Sam's.
After my students read the story "Food From the Hood" they created food labels that reflects our school in Oakland.
I ordered Food From the Hood salad dressing so my students could see the label on a real product. It was a great addition to this project.
The very pleasant plus is that I'm enjoying a very good salad dressing!
Great nutty flavor. And it's good for you. You can't beat that.
Only wish that it could be produced in the US, then it would be cheaper and more plentiful.
